Huge day for the future of the ‘Canes football program. Along with the 4 newest kids from Miami Northwestern, Randy Shannon managed to snag Ramon Buchanan back from UF. Combine that with Brandon Harris’ signing and we’ve got ourselves quite an incoming class.
Right now Rivals.com has Miami ranked at #4, while ESPNU is touting this class as the #1 overall class in the country. Considering our… underwhelming record this is an incredible achievement by Randy and his staff.
This class should make an impact across the board from the beginning of next year. Brandon Harris can start right away in the secondary, while Marcus Forston and Micanor Regis should lock down defensive tackle which was a huge weakness last year.
The biggest two positions for this class are going to be WR and LB. Getting the top 3 receivers (Aldarius Johnson, Tommy Streeter, Kendall Thompkins) from Miami Northwestern and the top 2 (Davon Johnson, Thearon Collier) from Booker T. Washington will lead to a massive increase of talent over what our WR corps had last year. At LB, we got 5 of the top 7 OLB’s according to ESPN’s rankings. Look for at least one of Sean Spence, Arthur Brown and Ramon Buchanon to make a massive impact next year.
And who can forget about Quarterback? All signs point to Robert Marve being the answer, but the competition brought in by Jacory Harris and Taylor Cook isn’t going to do anything but help. Plus, Cook’s a college-level punter. What’s not to like?
Don’t expect this team to come in and beat UF up in Gainesville in the second game of the year, but by the middle of next season we should be seeing the benefits of this monster class!

Good post! I would love to see UM play a good game against Florida. We should really see the team coming together by late next season. I don’t know if that means we will make a bowl, but at least we won’t be pathetic.
Aside from their physical abilities, I think the attitude of a lot of our recruits has to be a source of optimism for fans. Spence, Forston, Jacory Harris, Brandon Harris, Jordon Futch etc…all of these guys sound like leaders and the team should reflect that next season.

Good analysis of the signings. I would just say that while we may not expect the Canes to beat the Gators, stranger things have happened, like us being the #1 recruiting class. And the Gators didn’t look good defensively against Michigan in the bowl. So don’t count us out of that game!
