Both UM tennis teams lost their last matches of the season this past weekend. The men dropped their last two on the road to UNC and Duke, both by scores of 5-2. The women also lost to Duke at home on Friday 5-2.

The women (17-5, 9-2 ACC) were playing for the top spot in the ACC Friday. Going into the match, they were tied with Duke atop the conference. The loss pushed them down to second place with UNC. (North Carolina holds the better overall record of 20-5 and won the heads up match-up between the two schools on March 9th, 4-3).

Despite the losses, both UM squads earned first round byes in this weekend’s ACC Tournament. The women, a No. 3 seed, will face the winner of Clemson/Virginia Tech on Friday. The men, a No. 4 seed, will face the winner of BC/Georgia Tech.

And finally…Congratulations to Bianca Eichkorn. The nationally ranked No. 6 senior from Germany finished her final regular season with a 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 38 Nadine Fahoum. That win marked her 131st as a Hurricane — tying the career singles record set by former UM All-American Laura Vallverdu. Eichkorn is 31-6 this year in singles play and a perfect 11-0 in ACC singles. Her singles records over the past four years currently sit at 131-28 and 38-3, ACC. That’s an 82% and 93% win percentage for those of you keeping track at home.
