Rays Opening Day a Downer

Filed under: Major League Baseball — michaelperchick @ 12:49 pm

Well, this certainly wasn’t the way I planned the season to start.  The Rays offense was listless, their defense shoddy, and David Price uncharacteristically human as they dropped the opening game of the season to the revamped Baltimore Orioles.

Fueled by a 2-run triple in the sixth (and an ensuing sacrifice fly), the Orioles got a great pitching performance out of Jeremy Guthrie.

The Rays new additions, Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon, had a forgettable first game, combining to go 0/8 with two strikeouts.  The year is still young, but the Rays offense must pick it up, as their bullpen is no longer as dominant as last year.  Expect Manny and Damon to break through sooner rather than later.
