Bobby Valentine’s Op-Ed

Bobby Valentine, the former New York Mets manager, wrote in today’s New York Times about his feelings regarding smokeless tobacco in regards to its place in baseball.  Valentine, a former user, rightly contends that major league players, as role models for young athletes, ought to stop chewing tobacco on the field.  The NCAA has banned smokeless tobacco from its fields, the MLB  is behind–and it is unclear whether or not the league will choose to make a statement on the issue.
