Canes Baseball Continues to Win

After an unfamiliar start of sub-.500 ball, the Hurricanes baseball team has turned it on in these past two weeks, winning nine straight games to improve their record to 14-8.  They beat two in-state competitors in UCF and Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday and Wednesday night, respectively.

Harold Martinez, Miami’s preseason All-American third-baseman, was moved to first base on March 11th, and has hit just under .500 since the move.  His game-winning RBIs in last night’s game continue his hot offensive streak, and he has been stable at first base.  Coach Morris said that the change has relieved Martinez of pressure in the field, allowing him to focus on his offense.

The Hurricanes are hitting well under .300 as a team, and Morris contends that if anything is going to become an obstacle to the Hurricanes making a deep run this year, it will be the offense.

Miami is 6-0 in ACC play and goes up against Georgia Tech, tied atop the Coastal Division with the Canes.  The three-game set begins tomorrow night in Coral Gables.
