Men’s Tennis Wins Another Close One

Filed under: Uncategorized — magdebar @ 10:38 pm

The UM Men’s Tennis team earned another hard fought victory today, extending their win streak to five. The No. 32 Canes defeated the No. 16 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 4-3 on a sunny, but breezy day at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

After dropping their last two doubles points against USF and FSU (there was no doubles competition against UCF), the Canes started the afternoon 1-0. With each team winning one, the deciding doubles match saw Keith Crowley and Waylon Chin edge out Eliot Potvin and Ryan Smith, 9-8.

UM needed that point as Georgia Tech took three of the first five singles matches. The final singles point, and deciding match point, came between GT’s Dusan Miljevic and UM freshman Gabriel Flores. Flores grinded out the first set, 7-6, but fell in the second 4-6. The last set was another close one, but Flores put the match away with a 7-5 win in the third.

This was the first of a five-game homestand for the Canes. Next up is No. 21 Minnesota on Friday.
