Miami Drops Regular Season Finale

Filed under: Uncategorized — michaelperchick @ 11:26 pm

Any flickering chance of the Hurricanes magically earning themselves an at-large bid flew out the window today as they dropped their regular season finale at lowly Georgia Tech.  The loss dropped Miami to 18-13 overall, including 6-10 in the ACC.  Miami had a chance to win their second conference road game of the season, but blew a ten-point lead in the second half to split the season series with the Yellow Jackets.

It’s tough to say, but the Canes still aren’t even guaranteed an NIT berth.  Despite out of conference wins over West Virginia and Mississippi, and a season sweep of Boston College, the Canes resume is littered with close losses and little success on the road.

Miami will most likely have to win one game in the ACC tournament to secure a spot in the NIT. In order to make the NCAA Tournament, the Canes will have to win the ACC tournament.  While that may seem like an impossible task, a review of their competition begs otherwise.  The Canes were not blown out in any conference game all season, and have historically played Duke tough.

Remember last year the Canes won their first two games in the ACC tournament before giving Duke a big scare, all without Dwayne Collins.  Don’t expect Miami to lie down easy come tourney time.
