Canes baseball swept in Gainesville

Filed under: Uncategorized — davidfurones @ 7:52 pm

The University of Miami’s baseball team continues to struggle as it suffers its fourth consecutive loss, all coming on the road against in-state rivals.

The top-ranked Florida Gators capped off a weekend sweep of the Canes by defeating them 5-3. On Friday night they got to freshman starter Bryan Radziewski early and often for an 8-3 victory. Yesterday the Canes and Gators were involved in an epic pitcher’s duel that had both teams scoreless through seven, but a Bryson Smith pinch hit single to right off UM lefty reliever Sam Robinson plated Josh Adams for the only run in the game in the 8th inning.

All this coming after a 4-2 loss at USF on Tuesday night.

The Canes came into the week ranked No. 24 but will easily fall out of the rankings after their recent performances. They’ve been struggling under the management of J.D. Arteaga who’s filling in for Jim Morris as he recovers from gall bladder surgery.

Don’t be too quick to judge this team. They had everything against them this weekend– playing without their coach on the road against the No. 1 team in the nation who’s had their number in the last two postseason meetings. It’s a long baseball season, and they’ll have time to get it together, especially when Morris returns in two weeks.
