Another Day, Another Washington Wizard Bought Out

Filed under: Uncategorized — michaelperchick @ 8:28 pm

Mike Bibby saw his brief career with the Washington Wizards end yesterday, agreeing to give up over $6 million to latch on (most likely) with the Miami Heat.  Today, former Florida State standout Al Thornton reached a deal with the Wizards to buy him out.  The Wizards believed that Thornton was now expendable, especially in light of Josh Howard’s return.

For Washington, they save some more money, and create even more cap space to bring in a big-name player to play with franchise point guard John Wall.  But at the same time, it’s surprising that they gave up on Thornton so quickly.  Expect him to draw a lot of interest from teams in need of a talented wing- namely the Bobcats (who just traded Gerald Wallce), the Hornets (who have to be underwhelmed with the production they’ve gotten out of Trevor Ariza), and the Grizzlies (who will be without Rudy Gay for the next month).
