Hurricanes Beat Marlins

The Miami Hurricanes baseball team has defeated the Florida Marlins 9-8 this afternoon at an exhibition game held in Jupiter, Fla.

Rony Rodriguez hit a ground-rule double in the eighth to give the Hurricanes their winning run.

The Marlins had been leading the ‘Canes 7-1 after five innings, but thanks in part to a Michael Broad grand slam and an RBI triple from Stephen Perez, the Canes kept it close enough late in the game that a win was possible.

The game has no repercussions and is ultimately a meaningless affair for both teams–with the Hurricanes using it as a test of their abilities and a way for their players to meet and get mentoring from local major leaguers, and the Marlins using the game as a tune-up before entering the grind of Spring Training.  However, it might be most significant to the Marlins as Mike Stanton had to leave the game with pain in his quad and is now reported as out for the next several days.
