Knicks Win in Melo’s Debut

Filed under: NBA — michaelperchick @ 10:24 pm

Game 1- Check.  The Knicks knocked off the Milwaukee Bucks tonight, in Carmelo Anthony’s debut with the team.  While Melo dropped 11 fourth quarter points, he struggled with his shot all night, shooting 10/25 from the field.  Chauncey Billups, who was also making his debut with the team, wasn’t much more efficient, shooting only 4/12 from the field (though he did shoot a perfect 12/12 from the line).

The Knicks were actually lead by their longest-tenured player, ironic on a day that welcomed so many new faces.  Toney Douglas had arguably his best game of the season, playing superb defense, and shooting 10/12 from the field, including 3/5 from downtown.

Now the game was against the Bucks, who are now 8-22 on the road, so I’m not sure how much we really learned about the Knicks in this one.  The one big difference is that now when Amar’e comes out, the Knicks still have another superstar in the court with Anthony, and a veteran point guard in Billups who can control the pace of the game.

The Knicks host Cleveland before heading off to face the Heat and the Magic- two true tests to their newly assembled team.
