Lady ‘Canes striving to make history

Since the 1991-1992 season, the Women’s basketball team at the University of Miami holds their second highest ranking at No. 13 (At the end of the 1992 season they were ranked sixth). They are now second in the ACC at 8-2, a huge improvement from last years 4-10 ACC record. This is inevitably putting more pressure on the team.

Do you think the Lady ‘Canes can earn a top ten spot by the end of the season? Will any of the remaining games for the Hurricanes, all in-conference, be a challenge for the team? The team plays Florida State at home on Feb. 24 after losing to the Seminoles back in January along with the men’s team. Will they have the fuel to seek revenge especially because the game is at home this time?

  1. I am hoping that the Lady Canes can get into the Top-10, but it depends on the results of the teams ahead of them (assuming they’ll win the last 4 remaining games on the schedule). Away games at Boston College and GaTech are always difficult and although FSU is ranked #15 on the AP poll (Miami is #13) they are ranked ahead of the Lady Canes on the ESPN/USA poll (check to make sure). At any rate, the championship is between the Top-5 teams. #1) Baylor (If Brittney Griner gets hurt or in foul trouble, Baylor is in trouble) #2) UConn (The most complete team. Beat Baylor by a point early in the season). #3) Stanford (Beat UConn) #4) Tenn and #5) Texas A&M. The Lady Canes should be even better next year since there are no Seniors on this team. Go ‘Canes!
