Canes Top UNCG

Filed under: sports, college,UM sports — michaelperchick @ 9:38 pm

Miami rebounded from their loss against Duke to defeat UNC Greensboro on the road tonight.  While UNCG is certainly not a power (5-20 record), the game marks Miami’s second consecutive road win, and keeps their supremely faint tournament hopes alive.  If Miami wins out (a VERY tough task), and is able to steal a couple games in the ACC tournament, the Canes may be able to sneak into the now expanded field of 68.

The Canes hit 12 threes, and put away the Spartans with a big second half.  Miami, currently 8th in the ACC, takes on Clemson (17-8, 6-5, 5th in the ACC), on Sunday afternoon at home.  Clemson defeated the Canes by seven at home in early January.

  1. Winning out will be a tough task. Miami tends to stumble to the finish and doesn’t have a heckuva lot of wins against the teams ahead of them in a down year for the ACC. The difference between this year and last is that the Canes are beating the weaker ACC teams this year for the most part (aside from the NC State loss). This has kept them out of the cellar, but Miami needs a stronger inside threat and more guards who can cut to the hoop AND finish or kick it out to win in the ACC on a consistent basis.
