WNIT Final Four bound

Sophomore forward Shenise Johnson picked the perfect day to have a career game. Her 33 points and 10 rebounds lifted Miami to a 73-65 win at Providence College Sunday afternoon.

The Hurricanes (21-13) opened on a 14-0 run to start the second half and held off the Friars (19-15). Miami will play at the University of Michigan (21-13) in a WNIT Final Four matchup at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Unlike women’s basketball, the 49th-ranked men’s tennis team continues on its skid as it lost 5-2 to host Virginia Tech (10-3, 4-1 ACC) on Sunday afternoon.

Miami (6-8, 0-5 ACC) dropped its second consecutive match and have lost six of its last seven matches dating back to March 6.

Junior David Simon and sophomore Ignacio Taboada picked up the Canes’ two points in the fourth and sixth positions, respectively.
