Squash? Yes, squash or how I recognize it (racquetball): hitting a ball, racquet included, in a 4-walled room wearing funny goggles and hoping that I don’t get knocked out from a ricochet off the wall. It is an interesting sport that I’d say most older men enjoy from the looks of it at my local gym with the occasional eight year old running around the court.
But this is a serious game in the eyes of the IOC as it is a recognized sport and up for Olympic possibility. It was also a serious sport yesterday at Yale’s Payne Whitney Gym. Trinity College, known for winning consecutive national titles, just earned their 12th. While squash may be their game, good sportsmanship was not on the list. In what was deemed a close game from the beginning, Trinity closed the night with a victory, followed by harsh action on the court. Trinity’s Baset Chaudhry did not hold back after he secured the win. He immediately got in his opponent’s face, overstepped his boundaries and showed aggression not typical for a squash match.
