2009 Canes Football Schedule

Filed under: Uncategorized — dvillavicencio @ 1:48 pm

Coach Randy Shannon will be facing the toughest opening month as a head coach when his team kicks off next season. The ACC released the 2009 football schedules for their 12 member schools today.

Sept. 7 at Florida State (ESPN)
Sept. 17 Georgia Tech (ESPN)
Sept. 26 at Virginia Tech
Oct. 3 Oklahoma
Oct. 10 Florida A&M
Oct. 17 at Central Florida
Oct. 24 Clemson
Oct. 31 at Wake Forest
Nov. 7 Virginia
Nov. 14 at North Carolina
Nov. 21 Duke
Nov. 28 at South Florida

As you can see, the Hurricanes have one of the toughest first four ganes in the country opening up on the road in Doak Campbell Stadium in a renewal of the Labor Day match-up between the Canes and Noles. Miami’s home opener is ten days later against a Georgia Tech team that slaughtered UM 41-23 last season. The Canes then head to Blacksburg to face the always tough Virginia Tech Hokies. Miami completes their first third of the season with a home game against Oklahoma. Yes, this is the same Oklahoma that was in teh national championship game in January and brings back Heisman trophy winner Sam Bradford at QB along with maybe the best TE in the country in Jermaine Gresham and a home run threat in the backfield in DeMarco Murray.

Things don’t get any easier for Miami the rest of the way as they will still have to host C.J. Spiller and Clemson and take tough road trips to North Carolina and South Florida.

What do you think about Miami’s schedule? How do you think they will do in that tough opening stretch?

  1. Miami is going to need to find a way to slow down the Ga Tech running game or it will be no different than last year. They ran for over 400 yards and the Canes were completely embarrassed by their option attack. Its a little bit disappointing to admit but I think a 2-2 start would be considered a success.

  2. Miami will have a really hard time and its a shame because they won’t be able to build up any momentum in the beginning of the season. This season looks to already be shaping up into a nightmare.

  4. Just think of the possibilities if they were to open the season at 4-0!!!
