Miami @ #3 Duke – Overtime Blog

Filed under: Uncategorized — dvillavicencio @ 3:37 pm

It’s going to take at least an extra five minutes to decide this one. Miami has had two heartbreaking losses in OT this year. The Canes are looking to change their luck and be the first team to beat Duke on their home floor this year.

Duke strikes first scoring nearly two minutes into the overtime period on a Gerald Henderson layup.

The Blue Devils hit another shot. This time it was sophomore swingman Kyle Singler on a drive to the basket. The Canes need to get things going on offense soon or they will run out of time.

Canes do a nice job of getting the ball inside to Dwayne Collins. The big man took a nice hook shot but was unable to get it to fall.

With a minute to go things aren’t looking good for the Hurricanes. Gerald Henderson’s step back jumper from the right side extends the Duke lead to 74-68. It’s now or never for Miami.

McClinton steps up again for the Canes. His three pointer off an inbound pass brings Miami within three.

Following a Jon Scheyer free throw, James Dews takes a horrible shot that could mean the end for his team.

Kyle Singler goes 1-2 from the charity stripe to extend the lead to five. Fortunately for Miami, Jack McClinton gets fouled and is at the free throw line.

Jack knocks down both free throws to put the Canes three points away from a second overtime. Miami fouls Greg Paulus almost immediately after he caught the inbound pass. The senior guard is at the free throw line with a chance to put Miami away.

Paulus hits both free throws and it looks like the Hurricanes have let the game slip away for good.

McClinton hits a layup on Miami’s next posession but the Canes fall short in Durham losing 78-75.
