Happy Signing Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — dvillavicencio @ 8:10 am

College football fans, I’d like to personally welcome you to the most exciting day of the year. Today, high school seniors across the country will sign their letters of intent to attend the college of their choice. This is a huge occasion for both the athletes and the schools they choose as recruiting is the lifeline of a program.

Not all athletes have to sign today. You may remember the Terrelle Pryor saga from last year. The Jeanette, PA native was the talk of the recruiting world when he did not choose a school on signing day. Pryor  finally signed on March 19th, over a month after most of his peers has announced their college choices.

This year looks like South Floridians will be experiencing the roller coaster ride of an extended 2009 recruiting season. Bryce Brown will not be signing with any school today. The nation’s top recruit will make fans of the Hurricanes, Oregon Ducks, Auburn Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, USC Trojans and Kansas State Wildcats wait to find out where he will be playing football next year.

Several other recruits will be signing with Miami today including local product Lamar Miller. The supremely talented back out of Miami Killian High School will choose the Canes at 10 am today. Another talented Dade County product  expected to join Miller at UM is Miami Pace’s Kayvon Webster. A big hitting defensive back, Webster committed to the Canes earlir this year but proceeded to visit USF and West Virginia. I expect Webster to play the hat game at his announcement at noon but when he finishes tossing hats aside he will be wearing the U on his head.

I will be back later in the day to post on the announcements of Miller and Webster as well as any signing day surprises that may come about. Pull up a chair and get comfortable as we watch another National Signing Day unfold right before our eyes.
