First Round Streak Continues

Filed under: Uncategorized — hcumphrey @ 7:07 pm

With the last pick of the first round, the defending champion New York Giants selected Kenny Phillips, a safety from Miami. It was looking like Miami’s long streak of years with a first round pick was finished; many projections had the Giants taking the safety from Arkansas State over Phillips. Calais Campbell, an unusually tall defensive end, was later picked in the second round by Arizona. It is unlikely that any more Hurricanes will be drafted today. Mel Kiper, Jr., just said on ESPN that Miami’s sub-par season contributed to the low draft positions of Phillips and Campbell. Kiper added that Tavares Gooden should be picked soon; however, since the third round starts tomorrow, Gooden will probably have to wait overnight.
