ACC Player of the Week

Filed under: Uncategorized — Just Be. @ 4:47 pm

For the second week in a row, a Miami player has been named ACC player of the week. Congratulations go out to first baseman, Yonder Alonso. It is the second time he has received the award. Centerfielder Blake Tekotte received the honor last week.

Alonso helped lead the ‘Canes to a series victory over long time rival FSU on Sunday up in Tallahassee. He hit .556 (8-for-15) with 10 runs scored, nine RBI and homered twice. He also recorded his first ever grand slam.

As far as the “incident” goes (the almost brawl after the game), I have witnessed first hand how horrible FSU fans can treat opposing teams. I have personally been spit on in the orange bowl after seating ran out in the student section and overflow seating happened to be directly in front of the FSU section… The last football game (which was up at FSU) a guy started screaming at me and tried to push me down a hill on the way to the game. The guys I was with had to chase him away to get him to finally leave me alone. I’m not saying the blame lies solely on FSU. Both sides were involve and I’m sure FSU fans hve some Miami fan horror stories. But I bleed orange and green  and the incident does nothing to help their standing in my eyes. Spitting on the team, throwing things at our players, not classy. Sure it sucks to lose but there is no excuse for that sort of fan behavior.
