Baseball Inches Closer To Top Spot

Filed under: Uncategorized — akean @ 3:30 pm

Baseball America released their most recent poll a few hours ago, and the ‘Canes baseball squad is now ranked 4th after posting a 4-0 week. The ‘Canes stood at 6th in last week’s rankings, but were able to move up after Arizona dropped from 2nd to 6th and Vanderbilt fell from 5th to 9th.

UM is one of three ACC squads in the Baseball America top 10. North Carolina sits one spot ahead of the ‘Canes at No. 3, and Florida State is ranked 8th.

Mother nature prevented the ‘Canes from closing out a 5-0 week. After routing Wake Forest 23-2 in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader, Miami led 9-1 in the bottom of the fourth when the game was called due to lightning in the area – just six outs before the game would have been official. According to the ACC’s website, Sunday’s game will not be made up due to scheduling constraints.

Also worth noting, Sunday’s early game marked the 5th straight contest in which the ‘Canes had scored 10 runs – tying a school record that was first set in 1998. The team will look to break that record Tuesday as they host the first of two games against Bethune-Cookman. Miami then travels up to Durham, NC to take on Duke in the weekend series.
