Baseball Keeps on Bashing

Filed under: Uncategorized — akean @ 12:10 pm

During this week’s midweek games, the ‘Canes had an offensive explosion against Cornell and NJIT. Through two games of their weekend series against Wake Forest, that term is outdated. After merely scoring 17 runs against the Demon Deacons Friday night, the team just closed the books on a 23-2 victory this morning in the first half of a doubleheader.

With six home runs Friday night and three this morning, the lineup is certainly firing on all cylinders. Despite missing the first few weeks of the season, Dennis Raben is more than making up for lost time, sitting at a solid .318 with 5 home runs and 12 RBI in just 22 at bats. In fact, Raben has the lowest batting average of the team’s starting nine. Jemile Weeks is pacing the offense, hitting at a .425 clip with 7 home runs and 28 RBI, with Yonder Alonso and Jason Hagerty not far behind.

Chris Hernandez was outstanding again today, giving up just two runs on one hit  and striking out eight Wake batters over six innings. Hernandez and Eric Erickson have been solid all season, but with this kind of offense, does it even matter?

Look for the ‘Canes to move up in next week’s polls.
