Hurricane Invitational

Filed under: Uncategorized — hcumphrey @ 10:24 am

Today is the final day of the Hurricane Invitational, a track and field event on campus at Cobb Stadium. The bulk of the events will occur after 1:00 P.M., but the Invitational is already underway, as the hammer throw commenced at 11:00 A.M. Starting at 1:00 P.M., the races will be run every ten to fifteen minutes until 5:30 P.M. University of Miami is hosting the event, and the participants include schools with high-profile athletic programs and others of which I have never heard. Albany, Texas-San Antonio, North Dakota State, Warner Southern, South Carolina State, Florida Memorial, Central Florida, Johnson and Wales, Buffalo State, Rutgers, Marshall, Florida International, George Mason, Virginia Tech, Rhode Island, Pittsburgh, Nova Southeastern, Connecticut, Case Western Reserve, Furman, and Bethune Cookman are all competing. There was also a team milling about with “E.W.C.” written in bold orange on the front of its sweatsuits, but I have not yet learned from where it came. With the finals of so many events ranging from field to track scheduled for today, there will be some tremendous athletes competing on campus. Admission is free, and it should be a fun day of sports.
