how ’bout them hurdlers

Well. Three Miami participants in the 400-meter hurdle finals and three top place finishes. And these girls can run – oh, did I forget to mention to say that they are all freshman? Yeah, so their first outdoor meet of the year and their first time doing this event this season, Ti’erra Brown and twins Takecia Jameson and Tameka Jameson all ran the event in under a minute.

Brown, who said she never really ran the event her entire career, blasted the field with a 58.43. Takecia came in 58.45 and Tameka, who is still rehabbing a fractured patella (she fractured it this past June running down a hall on her wedge heels after running the 400 hurdles at a Junior Championship meet) finished in 59.65. That’s pretty impressive for her, she says, considering her fastest time in high school was a 59.12. “We’re under the radar as a team but for three freshman to come out here and run under a minute says a lot about our young program,” she said.

Now, these times are fast for first timers, especially at the collegiate level.  The fastest NCAA outdoor time last year was 54.32.  Shaving off that much is going to be a task, but Miami coach Amy Deem thinks her girls are up for any competition.

Another first place finisher from the U:

Kaitlin Nazario (Javelin) 43.45 m
