McClinton & Siena

Filed under: Uncategorized — hcumphrey @ 11:55 am

Jack McClinton left Siena, a small college barely north of Albany, after the 2004-2005 season. As a first-year guard, he averaged 13.6 points per game for the Saints, but their record was 6-24. McClinton ostensibly wanted to perform against better competition, the sort offered by the N.C.A.A. Tournament, and he transferred to Miami. As it happened, neither Miami nor Siena made the N.C.A.A. Tournament in the two seasons following McClinton’s transfer, but both schools are back in it this year. Coincidentally, both Siena and Miami last made the tournament in 2002. McClinton’s transfer did not accelerate his ascent to the tournament; perhaps Siena would be a dangerous, Gonzaga-esque mid-major with him. As affairs stand, Siena is a #13 seed, Miami is a #7 seed, and McClinton is first-team All-A.C.C., so his decision can not legitimately be questioned. Unfortunately, Siena and Miami are on opposite ends of the bracket and could only meet in the national championship game. It is an unlikely matchup for the N.C.A.A. title, but it may be fate.
