American High’s Vernon Commits

Filed under: Uncategorized — adonovan @ 8:39 am

American High’s DE Oliver Vernon became the fourth verbal commitment in Miami’s 2009 recruiting class yesterday.

“I had committed to them on Thursday, but I had been keeping it on the low until today,” Vernon told Christopher Stock of insidetheu.com. “I wanted to discuss it with my parents.”

As a junior, Vernon, had 52 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 18 tackles for loss. Having seen him play in person twice this past season, I can say that he is the real deal. He plays bigger than his size – 6-foot-2 and 226 pounds – and is very quick off the ball. He is sure to be a huge asset to Miami assuming he stays true to his commitment.

Vernon said that Miami has always been his first choice. But because the commitment is only verbal – and Vernon cannot make it official until February 4, 2009 (National Signing Day) – other teams are sure to continue to pursue him. To now, he claims offers from Alabama, Florida State, Illinois, Auburn, South Florida, and South Carolina.
