Men’s Tennis Update

Filed under: Uncategorized — adonovan @ 1:48 pm

The men’s tennis team is ranked No. 26 in the latest ITA rankings. The Canes are 5-2 overall and hold a perfect 4-0 record at home. Junior All-American Daniel Vallverdu achieved a career high ranking as he advanced three spots to No. 4 nationally in singles competition. He is 16-4 on the season with a 9-2 record against nationally-ranked opponents. Vallverdu and freshman Carl Sundberg, who hold a doubles record of 6-1 together, are ranked No. 10 in the country in dual match play.

I met up with men’s tennis coach Mario Rincon following yesterday’s practice. We discussed how his team will deal with the long break before their match against Furman on Wednesday, February 27. Rincon also touched upon his relationship with his players and some of his practice philosophies. I’ve posted audio of the interview here. Check it out.

  1. The men’s tennis team looks to have a very promising season…Mario has done a nice job with this year’s freshman recruiting class…

Their next home match is scheduled for Feb. 27th 2008 vs. Furman.
