Big week upcoming for UM basketball

Filed under: Uncategorized — cubscanes @ 10:18 pm

Most people realize UM takes on Duke this Wednesday, but the women’s basketball team also has its biggest home game of the season coming up on Thursday versus No. 3-ranked UNC. Yes, the season has been a disappointment record-wise, but this is a team that refuses to give up. Obvious comparisons could be made between this team and the football team that tanked down the stretch amid dissention between the old recruits and Shannon’s new players. But the teams couldn’t be more different. The entire women’s roster continues to give 100% for a coach still only in her third season. Senior Albrey Grimsley and junior LaToya Cunningham, whom Meier didn’t recruit, continue to give effort on both sides of the court. Grimsley won’t be around to share the floor with heralded prospect Shenise Johnson next year, but she still gives everything she has every game for a coach she believes in. That’s the first step to a winning program: belief in a coaching staff. That’s there. The results will come. This team has already shown glimpses of its potential in knocking off a Georgia Tech team that was 18-4 at the time, so don’t bet against the upset against North Carolina this Thursday night.

  1. Is the woman’s basketball team comparable to the Miami football team or not? It’s mentioned that there are obvious comparisons, followed by the teams couldn’t be more different. Your reader is curious of the reference to the dissentions between the old recruits and Shannon’s new players. Then the Women’s basketball team is cleansed by it’s belief in the coaching staff? Expound on the obvious comparisons in regards to the dissention.
